ISPRS Opposes Patent

In March 1998 the European Patent Office (EPO) granted a patent to a Norwegian company, Metronor AS, entitled "Method for Geometry Measurement", based primarily on digital photogrammetric techniques. ISPRS' President, Lawrence W. Fritz, sent the following letter (PostScript Format 130 kB) to the chairman of EPO's Examining Division 2213 opposing the award of this patent. The matter is at present being considered by the Patent Office and is also before the courts.
