ORFEO: a Dual System

• Cooperation on ORFEO: 2 Optical satellites, 4 SAR satellites and a Ground segment has been decided between France and Italy (Turin 29th January 2001)

  • Dual= Civilian and Defense exploitation sharing

• This System is at the same time:

  • The Optical HR of the French Pléiades program
  • The SAR X and of the Italian COSMO-SkyMed program

metric resolution (with 20 km swath)

revisit time less than 24 hours

daily capacity: 250 images per satellite

multi-modes from high resolution to wide field

revisit time less than 12 hours

daily capacity: from 75 (metric) to 375 (wide field) images per satellite
