ISPRS Commission VI Symposium

The International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) Commission VI Symposium was jointly organized with the Japan Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (JSPRS) at the Institute of Industrial Science (IIS), University of Tokyo, Japan from 27th to 30th of June, 2006. The main theme of the symposium was "e-Learning and the Next Steps for Education". Total of 150 participants from 27 countries have attended, and 53 papers were presented in 16 technical sessions. A technical exhibition by nine companies was also organized. The participants consist of researchers, engineers, educators and students from the fields of remote sensing, photogrammetry, and spatial information sciences shared their expertise, knowledge and experiences for optimizing the ways of education. The themes of the technical papers included but not limited to e-Learning, distance learning, capacity building, pedagogy, and accreditation. Hot discussions were performed on advantages and disadvantages of e-Learning. One of the exciting events was the fourth Computer Assisted Teaching Contest (CATCON4). Total of 14 software were nominated to CATCON4 and CATCON Awards were given to three excellent educational software. The details of the symposium can be found at http://www.commission6.isprs.org/.
