Commercial Satellite Imagery Project to support UNEP's National Environmental Atlases
and UN HABITAT's Lake Victoria Urbanisation Initiative
    Nov 29 - Dec 1, 2011
    Nairobi, Kenya

The ISPRS Foundation has provided support for participants to travel to a workshop on the use of Commercial Satellite Imagery to support UNEP's National Environmental Atlases and UN HABITAT's Lake Victoria Urbanisation Initiative. The workshop was held at the Regional centre for Mapping for Resource management (RMCRD) in Nairobi from 29th November to 1st December 2011.

The purpose of the workshop was to enable participants to understand the requirements to support development of base urban planning maps for the Lake Victoria region and to build capacity amongst local planners so that they are able to use GIS and remote sensing to support their work. More importantly the workshop brought together key International, regional, sub-regional, UN, national, academic and local organizations around a table to develop a strategy on how this group could collectively support the Mapping Africa for Africa (MAfA) initiative.

ISPRS Workshop on Remote Sensing and GIS Methods for Change Detection and Spatio-temporal
    Modelling (CDSM 2011)
    December 14–16, 2011
    Hong Kong, China

The CDSM2011 international symposium was held at 14-16 December 2011, Hong Kong Baptist University. It was an official academic event of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) and it is jointly organized by ISPRS Working Group VII/5 "Methods for change detection and process modelling", Department of Geography and Centre for Geo-computation Studies, Hong Kong Baptist University, Department of Land Surveying and Geo-informatics, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
The aim of the symposium was to enhance international collaboration and scholar exchange in the field of remote sensing change detection and spatio-temporal modelling. The focus also extended to the study of geo-process modelling using long-term remotely sensed and geographical data. It was endeavored to promote and encourage collaborated efforts for the development of new technology for processing multi-temporal imagery, detecting changing environment and objects, and modelling long-term geo-processes.

The nine societal benefit areas (Agriculture, Biodiversity, Climate, Disasters, Ecosystems, Energy, Health, Water, Weather), identified by the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) member states, clearly shows that Earth Observation is here only to benefit the citizens. This global effort can be traced in International Organizations and Initiatives like GEO (Group on Earth Observations), GEOSS Global Earth Observation System of Systems), CEOS (Committee on Earth Observation Satellites), and so on.

Ordinary Member: Chamber of authorized Architects and Engineers, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia(FYROM)

Activities of chamber of authorized architects and engineers of FYROM:
Chamber of authorized architects and engineers of FYROM is an organization which consists of the following nine departments:
  - Geodesy

  - Geotechnics

  - Urbanism

  - Architecture

  - Living environment engineering

  - Civil engineering

  - Mechanical engineering

  - Electric engineering

  - Traffic engineering

The chamber has a power given by the laws to provide engineers with authorization certificates. These certificates are necessary for engineers in order to make designs and perform official engineering tasks within the country and to be accepted by official institutions. Each department of the chamber has it own commission appointed to conduct evaluation of the applicants for an authorization and at the end to make decision to grant or not an authorization certificate.

The department of the chamber for Geodesy has extensive cooperation with geodetic engineers working in practice in order to support implementation of new technologies, promote new laws, influence law regulations in process of creation, providing licenses for certain field of expertise in the field of Geodesy. Providing standards and revision of the created designs and geodetic project is also a part of the work provided by the department.
