Five Projects win ISPRS Scientific Initiatives 2025 (SI2025) Awards
The ISPRS Scientific Initiatives are defined in the ISPRS Orange Book, Appendix 9a (https://www.isprs.org/documents/orangebook/app9a.aspx). Every two years applications are invited for proposals and a total of up to CHF70,000 is awarded.
Several strong applications were received for the SI2025s. These usually come up through the Working Groups, then the Technical Commission Presidents, who endorse them. Finally, a small panel chosen from ISPRS Council makes the final decisions.
Five SI2025 proposals were given awards, which total CHF42,700. The projects are funded and work has begun. The titles and principal investigators of these projects are as follows (see https://www.isprs.org/society/si/default.aspx for more detail):
- A forecasted surface velocity database for cities of the Mediterranean southern coast to assess coastal displacement contribution to shoreline change by 2030, Bahaa Mohamadi
- ISPRS benchmark on 3D point cloud to model registration (PC2Model), Mehdi Maboudi
- International contest of automated individual-tree delineation from close-range point clouds, Xinlian Liang
- Developing food insecurity index and vulnerability information system (FIVIMS) for a tribal district- a case of Alirajpur District, Madhya Pradesh, India, Kakoli Saha
- Air quality from pictures: benchmarking and assessment of image-based methods for particulate matter estimation (AQpictures), Daniele Oxoli
ISPRS congratulates these winners and wishes them every success with their projects. Funding is for one calendar year and, once the projects are complete, the resulting reports will be posted on the ISPRS website.
