The Working Group WG V/6 "Visualization and Animation"of ISPRS Commission V has been upgraded from the Interest Group of the previous term (1996-2000). We continued our responsibility as Co-Chairmen to maintain the academic and scientific activities of the Working Group. One of our major tasks was to bring Western and Oriental people together in order to achieve our goals of information exchange in photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial information sciences with focus on visualization and animation of cultural heritage, landscape and other three dimensional objects.
We decided to convene a workshop annually to encourage scientists, developers and practitioners, including graduate students to present their research results in an appropriate way and place. We selected Ayutthaya, Thailand last year and Kunming, China this year as the venues for the workshops. We intentionally selected places with characteristics such as inexpensive, peaceful, historically rich in cultural heritage and with interested local people.
In particular, after the Terrorists' attack to United States last year, it was not easy to hold such workshop because many scientists hesitated to make international travels. In this regards, we appreciate very much that the Kunming people accepted to organize this workshop and venue locally. We also thank Dr. Kiyoshi Honda, Asian Institute of Technogy and his secretary Ms.Supannika (Pook) for their outstanding efforts in preparing the workshop.
We wish that this workshop will result in providing all participants with fruitful outcomes. It is for the first time that we publish Workshop Proceedings on CD in electronic form only. We hope that this is accepted and appreciated by the readers.
